Washington Gov. Jay Inslee is running for president in 2020.
In a video made public Friday, the governor announced his campaign and said fighting climate change would be a major focus.
“I’m Jay Inslee and I’m running for president because I am the only candidate who will make defeating climate change our nation’s number one priority,” Inslee said in the video.
Inslee will hold a press conference at a solar panel installer in Seattle to further explain his platform.
In his video, titled “Our Moment,” Inslee said now is the time to do something about climate change.
“We’re the first generation to feel the sting of climate change. And we’re the last that can do something about it,” Inslee said. “We can do this. Join our movement. This is our moment.”
Inslee has been openly considering a bid for president, and with his announcement, he became the 13th Democrat to launch a bid for the 2020 nomination.
Inslee is entering an already crowded field that includes Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Cory Booker, D-N.J., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., among others.
